What is Texarkana Rock School?
Texarkana Rock School or TRS teaches students how to perform with other students in a band setting. Many students know how to play their instrument, but TRS helps them understand what part they play within a band.
How will playing in band setting increase my skills as a musician?
While playing solo has its own benefits and rewards, it’s difficult to progress in your musicianship until you experience all the factors of collaborating with other musicians. Playing in a band increases your sense of rhythm, tempo, and continuity. If you miss a beat or play a wrong note, ensemble playing teaches you how to continue the song despite mistakes. This is an invaluable and necessary attribute during live performances, solo or group.
When am I or my child going to learn a complete song?
The truth is many popular and classic songs consist of only a few chords and a standard arrangement of those chords. However, without the accompaniments of an entire band many songs will seem repetitive, and as if you are not playing the entire piece. Unless a song is written specifically as a solo, you will not be able to appreciate the song in its entirety without a full band.
What skills are required for a student to participate at Texarkana Rock School?
All students should have a common knowledge of their instrument and basic music theory. Guitarist should be able to play their core chords, bar/power chords, and basic strum patterns. Bassist should know the notes on their guitar neck and be able to play basic root note patterns. Drummers should know their basic drums set rhythms, fills, and be able to play along with a metronome.
What should the student bring with them?
Drums and guitar amplifiers will be provided but students are encouraged to bring their own instruments and guitar effects. Drummers will need to bring their own sticks.
